Build confidence. Improve clinical decision-making. Deliver Pharmacy First safely.
Join Atif Saddiq, Assistant Professor & Advanced Clinical Practitioner in General Practice, and Mohammed Imran, Advanced Clinical Practitioner in General Practice, for a practical face-to-face training course designed to help pharmacists assess, examine, and manage patients presenting through the Pharmacy First service in England.
This session focuses on the real-world skills pharmacists need in practice: structured consultations, recognising red flags, applying PGDs and protocols safely, knowing when to treat, and knowing when to refer.
The course covers all 7 Pharmacy First clinical pathways:
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infection in women
- Shingles
- Impetigo
- Infected insect bites
- Acute sore throat
- Acute sinusitis
- Acute otitis media
Delegates will be guided through the key PGD and protocol requirements, including inclusion and exclusion criteria, clinical assessment points, treatment options, referral criteria, documentation, and safety-netting advice.
Through practical teaching and realistic case-based scenarios, delegates will develop the confidence to approach Pharmacy First consultations safely, clinically, and professionally.
By the end of the session, delegates will be able to:
- Carry out structured Pharmacy First consultations with confidence.
- Understand the key requirements of all 7 clinical pathways.
- Recognise red flags and patients requiring escalation.
- Apply inclusion and exclusion criteria safely.
- Perform relevant clinical examinations to support decision-making.
- Provide appropriate treatment, advice, safety-netting, and follow-up.
- Document consultations clearly in line with service expectations.
Ideal for pharmacists who want to feel more confident, clinically prepared, and ready to deliver Pharmacy First consultations in practice.
